How Valued Workers Can Use Autonomous Mobile Robots to Improve Efficiency & Boost Productivity
Supply chain companies of all sizes are struggling with increasing demand and hiring challenges. Autonomous mobile robots (AMR) can help workers improve productivity, but workers will resist if these new tools are difficult to operate and require outside experts to set up, operate, and maintain. With this presentation, we’ll provide an overview of AMR benefits and show how AMRs designed for workers can be used to automate time-consuming, repetitive tasks so workers can stay focused on more valuable jobs. We’ll demonstrate how including workers early in the automation process promotes pride of ownership, reduces resistance, and speeds deployment. We’ll provide guidance on choosing accessible equipment that will engage the workforce, offer career opportunities for workers of all skill levels, and enable quick productivity gains. Takeaways:
- AMR basics and how AMRs can be used to automate material movement so workers can focus on valuable jobs
- How to engage the workforce from the start to speed deployment and ensure project success
- Employment opportunities created by easy-to-use AMRs designed for workers

The Evolution of Training for Supply Chain Automation Technicians
Industry 4.0 has introduced technologies that have impacted supply chain and logistics efforts associated with rapid movement of goods from the manufacturer to the customer. Training in advanced technologies such as networking, robotics, inventory systems, Internet of Things devices, radio frequency identification, and cybersecurity provides technicians with the skill sets they need in this industry. During this session Columbus State Community College faculty will discuss their NSF-supported grant that helped them develop their Logistics Engineering Technology (LET) program and subsequent grants that created a work-study program and expanded the program with partner institutions (COMPLETE grant). Oakton Community College and Sinclair Community College faculty will discuss how the collaboration led to the revision of the National Center’s two-year program for Supply Chain Automation.

Future of the Cybersecurity Workforce, Recent Trends, Workforce Demands & National Initiatives
Significant compromises of sensitive U.S. defense information on vendor computer networks have prompted new rules and requirements. Soon over 300,000 new and existing Department of Defense (DoD) contractors seeking new contracts with the DoD must meet requirements announced January 1, 2020. The model is designed to protect our national DoD supply chain from cyber criminals and state-sponsored attacks. This requirement, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), is a unified standard for implementing cybersecurity across the companies included in the defense industrial base (DIB). The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense combined several cybersecurity standards and best practices and mapped these controls and processes across five maturity levels. This session will cover each maturity level and demonstrate new instructional materials you can use to incorporate cybersecurity concepts in your program. The session will include demonstrations of new tools and resources available to academia.

Certification and Apprenticeship: Target Corporation Leading the Way in Technician Workforce Development
Target, a founding SCA industry partner, has taken the bull by the horns in addressing its current and future technician workforce development needs. In partnership with SCA and Norco College, Target embarked on a journey to develop and upskill its techs by integrating Amatrol’s Skill Boss Logistics device with MSSC’s industry-validated, ISO 17024-accredited Certified Technician-Supply Chain Automation (CT-SCA) program and an onsite registered apprenticeship. The goal is to educate, develop, and certify both new hires and incumbent workers. During this session attendees will learn about the challenges Target faced, how the pilot program was developed, what role each partner played, the obstacles that were overcome, and the future direction of the technician certification program.
